Walk and Talk: Lind CE and Home Cemetery

September 23, 2023 , 10:00 am 12:00 pm

Walk and Talk: Lind Family Conservation Easement and Home Cemetery Tour

Where: The Lind Conservation Easement is located on the Key Peninsula in Lakebay, Washington. Directions to this easement will be provided via email to the attendees who have completed registration. Please RSVP!

What: Join us on Saturday, September 23rd from 10am-12pm to take a tour through one of GPC’s oldest and largest conservation easements and the adjoining Home Cemetery property. Enjoy a walk through a well-groomed 2-mile trail system and learn about the ecology, history, and future of the Lind Family’s property which is currently seeking its next conservation-minded owner (learn more here). Along the way, we’ll also dive into the fascinating history of Home, Washington, and the early residents who sought to build a utopian community in the PNW wilderness. Help us spread the word about the event and bring your friends to tour this magnificent slice of forest and celebrate a unique story from Key Peninsula’s past!

Accessibility: The majority of the walk will be held on a section of old logging road that is wide, even, and with minimal grade. Total distance: ~2 miles. There will be one section of one-track, brushed trail that we will take to view the Home Cemetery. GPC recommends that all attendees come dressed for the weather and in comfortable footwear. A port-o-potty will be available on site at the starting location of the walk. Our walk will have 4-5 featured stops where the majority of the communication will happen, so feel free to bring a small camp-chair if you like to sit while you listen.

In memory of Bob and Nancy Lind whose foresight made the protection of this amazing property possible. And with many thanks to their sons Rob, Dave, and Aaron Lind, for stewarding the property with such care and graciously allowing our members to tour it this September.
