Second Wednesday Work Party
July 12, 2023 , 9:00 am – 11:00 am
Invasive vegetation management at Filucy Bay Preserve
Join Great Peninsula Conservancy for our Second Wednesday Work Parties!
Located in the key peninsula of north Pierce County, near the Longbranch community, Filucy Bay Preserve features lush Riparian Forest habitat rich with vine maple, red alder, black cottonwood and an array of liverworts and mosses. These forests line the shorelines of a tidal estuary that provides habitat and food for salmon and the vast collection of birds that occupy the preserve.
In the shade of Filucy Bay’s lush forests, we will be removing invasive blackberry and cherry laurel that are growing into the picnic area where the public can access the shoreline via hand-powered watercrafts.
What: invasive blackberry and cherry laurel management
When: Wednesday, July 12th from 9am-11am
Where: Filucy Bay Preserve in Longbranch, WA – additional parking information and directions will be sent in an email when your sign-up is confirmed.
Accessibility: We will be doing work with our hands and using hand tools to remove blackberry and cherry laurel, both of which may involve some bending and stooping. The terrain is relatively flat, but some areas may be uneven. Great Peninsula Conservancy will provide all tools and gloves as well as water.
