Monthly Work Parties Spanning the Peninsula

GPC stewardship team and volunteers after a successful morning at Lay Wildrose Preserve.

In May 2023 GPC started hosting monthly work parties across our working region with an eye to addressing stewardship needs and connecting with communities that live near GPC preserves. These are a great way to get out to properties that are reserved for wildlife and help support healthy ecosystems in your own neighborhood!

Beatrice Lincke, Community Stewardship Coordinator AmeriCorps VISTA, has been leading this effort, coordinating all the hard work that goes into having a fun, impactful day in the field. She shared a few words about why she’s interested in leading these types of opportunities at GPC:

“Kitsap is full of people who have unique and beautiful reasons for joining GPC’s movement to conserve and enhance the ecosystems of this region. The work parties have been a great space to meet these people and hear the stories that connect them to this place with so much natural abundance.”

In just the three first work parties, I’ve found plant propagators who are coming up with ways to restore the native vegetation in their neighborhoods, learned about an apple tree personality in Bremerton named Fiona, met people who have spent their lives working towards building an equitable and welcoming conservation movement.”

The people who come to our work parties are so neat. It’s a community I am excited to be a part of!”

Visit our events page to sign up for upcoming work parties! They will continue on the second Wednesday of each month into the Fall. Thanks to everyone who shows up and puts time and effort into stewarding greenspaces!
