The Gig Harbor & Key Peninsula Land Fund is a committee of Great Peninsula Conservancy. This volunteer committee is made up of a diverse group of community residents committed to conserving land in our beautiful region. In August, 2024 we celebrated the integration of the Gig Harbor & Key Peninsula Land Fund into GPC.

The Fund was launched in January 2022 by a group of residents concerned about the loss of wildlife habitat and natural recreation areas in and around Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula. Since its inception, the Fund has raised over $100,000 for land conservation. The group has contributed to Phase 3 of the txʷaalqəł Conservation Area (five acres in the Donkey/North Creek watershed), the 15-acre Key Peninsula Parks ‘Lavender Farm’ purchase (now part of Key Central Forest), and the 11.5-acre Phase 4 parcel of the txʷaalqəł Conservation Area. With these three projects, the Fund will have helped conserve over 30-acres in just two short years. Visit our blog to learn more about this historic acquisition and watch a video on the proper pronunciation of txʷaalqəł.

Great Peninsula Conservancy has been operating in Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula since our founding in 2000, and as far back as the 80s, as the Peninsula Heritage Land Trust. To date, we have preserved over 1,200 acres in the region. In the last five years, GPC has conserved 522 acres across nine properties thanks to the support of state and local agencies, tribes, and community members like you, including: Filucy Bay Preserve expansions, McDermott Point Preserve, Rocky Creek Preserve, and the Kaukiki Farm Conservation Easement. You can learn more about our projects in the region on our interactive map.
