Thank you for joining us for a very special evening at Kiana Lodge on May 2nd to support conservation on the Great Peninsula! Thanks to our community sponsors and members, $125,000 was raised to help protect our forests, streams, shorelines, and parks for generations to come!
Great Peninsula Conservancy recognized and celebrated several members from our conservation community during the dinner. Ken Shawcroft received the Conservation Award for his dedication to conservation through volunteer work with Hansville Greenway, Kitsap County Parks, and Great Peninsula Conservancy’s stewardship program.
We also celebrated Sandra Staples-Bortner, who will be retiring at the end of May after leading Great Peninsula Conservancy for 11 years. Sandra shared her passion and commitment to GPC’s mission and thanked our partners, board, and members for working together to grow this land trust into a regional powerhouse.
She told stories of her love for the outdoors, starting with the beaches and islands of the Atlantic Ocean when she camped on her father’s lobster boat as a child. For the past 25 years, she has enjoyed living in the Pacific Northwest and exploring the shorelines of the Pacific Ocean and Puget Sound, most recently with her young grandchildren.
Two standing ovations filled the room with joy, appreciation, and well wishes for her next adventures!
Now we look forward to the next year and all the new and exciting projects that we will embark on together. Great Peninsula Conservancy is a community-driven organization, and we are so happy to work with you to conserve the beautiful lands and waters that we all love!
