2024 Conservation Sponsor Highlight: Puget Sound to Pacific

Great Peninsula Conservancy is excited to highlight, for a second year, our Conservation Sponsor of the 2024 Conservation Celebration: the Puget Sound to Pacific (PS2P) Consortium!

Since last year, the consortium facilitated a successful federal RAISE grant which funds planning to fill gaps in the Rails to Trails Conservancy’s coast to coast 3,700 mile Great American Rail Trail, specifically our section between Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean.

PS2P envisions a greenway and multi-use trail between Kitsap ferries and La Push—connecting our West Sound and Pacific Coast communities with a network of multi-use trails doubling as wildlife corridor with ecological conservation and restoration.
The North Kitsap Trails Association, Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation, and the Peninsula Trails Coalition joined forces to create the Puget Sound to Pacific Collaborative. This grant funds planning and design of gaps, community connections, and safety improvements in the unified Sound to Olympics and Olympic Discovery Trail networks.

Thirteen cities, counties, tribes and state agencies collaborated to present 34 planning and design tasks for funding by the USDOT Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant program. See the full application at www.ps2p.org

One hundred miles are built and signed, while another 100 miles need to be designed and built, including community connections to bring the benefits of active transportation and greenways to all the communities along the way.

Supporters of the PS2P Collaborative are proud to again be Conservation Sponsors of Great Peninsula Conservancy, which plays such a vital role in conserving and enhancing land with habitat integral to the PS2P mission.
