Tahuya River Preserve Featured in WALT’s Groundswell 2024

Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC) is proud to be featured in the 2024 edition of Groundswell, the Washington Association of Land Trusts’ (WALT) annual report celebrating the collective power of Land Trusts across Washington. This year’s publication showcases the innovative projects and collaborative efforts led by WALT’s 34 member organizations, including GPC’s landmark work to protect the Tahuya River Preserve. Through stories of restored salmon habitats, community forests, and impactful acquisitions, Groundswell brings to life the remarkable ways land trusts like ours are preserving the landscapes that sustain people, wildlife, and our quality of life.

For GPC, our work on the Tahuya River Preserve stands out as a shining example of what can be accomplished through dedicated collaboration and community support. The preserve, which now spans 183 acres of critical salmon habitat and lush floodplain forests, represents a significant investment in the health of our local ecosystems. With funding from the Washington Department of Ecology Streamflow grant and the state Salmon Recovery Funding Board, along with support from local partners, GPC was able to secure and protect this invaluable landscape for future generations. Projects like these not only restore vital habitats but also provide opportunities for community members to connect with and steward the land.

We encourage you to dive into the pages of Groundswell to learn more about the powerful impact land trusts are having across our state. The stories in this year’s report underscore the importance of working together to protect Washington’s natural heritage.
