GPC was thrilled to work with @kitsapimmigrantassistance.kiac for a Land Labs summer shorelines field experience on August 29th. Students learned about the Carpenter Creek watershed, crab identification, and microhabitats, all while exploring the dynamic shoreline of Arness Roadside Park in Kingston. They were also joined by NOAA who talked about orca conservation in the Puget Sound! GPC is looking forward to one last summer field experience with Catalyst Middle School in September.

GPC relies on state grant funding to preserve vita

GPC relies on state grant funding to preserve vital wildlife habitat, especially for salmon recovery. To protect the salmon streams, shorelines, forests, and farmlands essential to the health of our region, GPC opposes passage of Initiative 2117. If implemented, I-2117 would roll back the 2021 Washington Climate Commitment Act (CCA).

I-2117 threatens vital protections for our waterways and would end programs that support fish habitat and salmon recovery, including programs that remove barriers that hurt spawning salmon and encourage landowners to plant native vegetation along salmon-bearing streams.

Attention North Kitsap residents and birdwatchers!

Attention North Kitsap residents and birdwatchers! University of Washington's Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST) is hosting a volunteer training on September 7th. COASST is a citizen science organization with around 800 active participants who go out to a beach of their choice once monthly to count and identify dead birds to establish and maintain a baseline for seabird mortality. They are excited to host a Beached Bird training session at the Kingston Library on September 7th. No prior experience with scientific data collection is needed!
