Happy Friday! It might be a gloomy day today, but things are starting to wake up and despite the gray and rain, birds are singing and plants are once again poking their heads out. These seasonal changes are one of the exciting things about conserving and stewarding all the places that GPC works!

A group of curious folks recently got out on the beach at GPC's Johnson South Sound Refuge to learn about forage fish in Puget Sound during a Walk & Talk with Terence Lee, Science Director at @nisquallyreachnaturecenter. Participants got to get their hands dirty with a forage fish survey and learned what makes natural shorelines so important for the health of our marine ecosystems.

Thanks to Terence for sharing his work and knowledge with the GPC community!

Join GPC for a Walk & Talk at Hahobas Shoreline Preserve with Dr. Michael Pavel this Saturday March 18th, 2023 from 11am-1pm!

Dr. Pavel is a professor, author, artist, and Tradition Bearer of the South Salish Culture. We will learn about the origins of the Hahobas placename in the Twana language (tuwaduq) and the legacy of land stewardship practiced by the Skokomish Tribe that continues to this day.

Last week, GPC hosted our second Forest Tour and Community Meeting for Newberry Woods Community Forest where we explored the resources and natural diversity, and discussed the community priorities for the future of the community forest.

Last weekend we put the COMMUNITY in Newberry Woods Community Forest! Thank you to all our wonderful community members who joined us for our first forest tour and meeting to discuss the future of Newberry Woods.

The forest tour brought almost as much beautiful blue sky as it did beautiful people and we are excited for the multitude of uses that community members thought up for Newberry Woods at Planning Meeting #1.

While the two remaining forest tours are full, there are still openings to join the community meeting series at Silverdale Library. The future uses of the community forest depend on YOU! If you have an interest in natural spaces in the Kitsap community, we encourage you to join

This past Saturday GPC’s Conservation Manager Al

This past Saturday GPC’s Conservation Manager Ali Querin celebrated the “un-groundbreaking” for Phase III of the North Creek Salmon Heritage Site, at which GPC now holds a conservation easement. This land will be protected in perpetuity thanks to the City of Gig Harbor, the Gig Harbor Land Conservation Fund, the Puyallup Tribe and GPC.
