Second Wednesday Work Party

May 10, 2023 , 9:00 am 11:00 am

Ivy removal at Lay Wildrose Preserve

Join Great Peninsula Conservancy for our Second Wednesday Work Parties!

What: Join your fellow nature enthusiasts in an ivy pulling bonanza!

When: Wednesday, May 10th from 9am-11am

Where: Lay Wildrose Preserve in the Rosedale community of Gig Harbor. Parking will be located at Rosedale Park. Additional parking information and directions will be sent in an email when your sign-up is confirmed.

Accessibility: We will walk approximately 0.1 miles to access the work site. There is no trail at Lay Wildrose preserve, so come prepared to walk over uneven terrain. We will be doing work with our hands and using hand tools to remove ivy, both of which may involve some bending and stooping.

Sprawling across forest and estuary ecosystems, Lay Wildrose Preserve offers habitat to the elegant and scrumptious native roses that were historically abundant in the Rosedale community. Native Nootka and cluster roses provide delicious forage to the smallest bees and largest bears through their pollen packed flowers and in the tart rose hips produced in the fall. At our next monthly work party, Great Peninsula Conservancy invites you to join us for a morning among the trees to manage the ivy patch that is taking over plant habitat in the preserve.
